Kavvanna’s 2D

FASHION REPURPOSED • WARD 8

Kavvanna Portrait
In Washington, D.C., where style is deeply tied to identity, community, and culture, a new wave of designers are reshaping what fashion and being aware of social responsibility means.
Among them is Kavvanna “2D” Collins, a DC Native and creative entrepreneur, currently based in Southeast D.C., using repurposed fashion to challenge fast fashion, and overconsumption while redefining personal style.
“My brand shows people how to be stylish, expressive, and confident using what they already have.”
— Kavvanna "2D" Collins
At the core of Kavvanna’s work is a commitment to shifting how people think about clothing. Rather than chasing trends or constant newness, the brand encourages individuals to look inward, and into their own closets, for inspiration. In a fashion industry often driven by excess, this approach positions Kavvanna’s as part of a growing movement toward sustainable fashion in Washington, D.C., where creativity replaces consumption.
“I chose to develop sustainable solutions because overconsumption was costing us our individuality, our confidence, and our environment, and I wanted to be part of an intentional change.”
Kavvanna’s perspective is deeply rooted in place. Growing up in Northeast D.C., helped shape her understanding of community, culture, and creativity. The environment around Howard University and neighborhood traditions like Georgia Avenue Day created a foundation where expression and connection were part of everyday life.
“I’m from Northeast DC, what we call ‘Uptown,’ right by Howard University.”
— Kavvanna "2D" Collins
“Growing up there showed me how much opportunity can exist within a community. There was always a strong sense of connection, from everyday neighborhood culture to events like Georgia Avenue Day that brought everyone together. That environment taught me the value of community, creativity, and using what’s around you to build something meaningful, and that’s the same energy I bring into my brand today.”
“Creating Kavvanna’s in Southeast DC is an honor. It’s a space where art, expression, and individuality thrive. Being immersed in that culture introduced me to sustainable fashion and showed me how powerful style can be when it’s aligned with who you are. My brand was shaped in that environment, allowing me to share my talents with a community that doesn’t just follow trends, but uses their wardrobe as a form of self-expression.”
Through initiatives like clothing exchanges and community-centered events, Kavvanna is helping to build a local ecosystem where fashion is collaborative, accessible, and intentional. Her work connects directly to broader conversations around sustainable fashion, circular design, and community-driven style in D.C., making her brand both culturally relevant and forward-thinking.
“I see the need for a sustainable resource center... a place that transforms how we consume.”
— Kavvanna Collins
“My story is rooted in what I’ve learned from the communities and cultures that shaped me. Through those experiences, I see the need for a sustainable resource center, a space where wardrobes, furniture, and art are not discarded, but reimagined with intention. A place that transforms how we consume, supports the planet, and empowers people to create value from what they already have.”

As D.C.’s fashion landscape continues to grow, creatives like Kavvanna are proving that style doesn’t have to come at the cost of identity or sustainability. Instead, it can be a reflection of both, grounded in community, shaped by culture, and driven by purpose.
